These phone settings take minutes to setup. In an emergency, they could save your life.
Prepare your phone
Set up your Medical ID
Paramedics can see your blood type, medications and allergies from your lock screen, no passcode needed
Open Health app → tap your initials / profile pic top right → select Medical ID → add details and turn on Show When Locked
Add emergency contacts
When an Emergency SOS call ends, your phone automatically texts them your location.
Open Health app → tap your initials / profile pic top right → select Medical ID → enter Emergency Contacts
Know your SOS shortcut
Your phone can call 999 for you, so learn the trigger now, not when you need it.
Press the side / power button & either volume button together, then slide across the SOS button on screen. Or keep pressing for a countdown to an automated call. Alternatively, you can just press the side / power button five times, rapidly
Turn on Crash Detection
If you have an iPhone 14 or newer version, your phone can call 999 and share your location automatically should you have a crash
Go to Settings → Emergency SOS → Call After Serious Crash
Enable Emergency SOS via Satellite
If you have an iPhone 14 or newer version, you may be able to call for help without phone / WiFi signal. Run the practice demo so you're ready
Go to Settings → Emergency SOS → Try Demo
Set up your Emergency Information
Your medical details, visible from the lock screen without a passcode can help a paramedic
Go to Settings → select Safety & Emergency → Medical Info
Add Emergency Contacts
They're notified with your location the moment Emergency SOS is triggered
Go to Settings → select Safety & Emergency → Emergency Contacts

Samsung Galaxy: press the power button three times
Check yours and set it up now
Go to Settings → Safety & Emergency → Emergency SOS
Set a lock screen message
Your name, a medical condition and a next-of-kin number which can be visible to anyone who picks up your phone, instantly.
Go to Settings → select Security → select Screen Lock Settings → Lock Screen Message
Schedule a Safety Check-in
On Android 12 or newer, set up the Google Personal Safety app then you can set a timer if you are working remotely or in a dangerous location. If you don’t check in, your Emergency Contacts are alerted with your location.
Open the Personal Safety app → select Safety Check → Start Check-in
Prepare yourself
Always wear appropriate PPE (gloves, a helmet, ear defenders) even for jobs that feel routine. Loose or frayed clothing could get caught in machinery.
Always carry a charged mobile phone when working and keep an extra battery pack in
your cab or work bag if you can't charge the phone from the machine.
Tell someone where you're working if you are heading to a signal blackspot and agree a check-in time.

Prepare your farm

Let any new workers or visitors know the mobile signal blackspots around your farm.
Know where your nearest defibrillator is (find one near you no, using Defib finder) and make sure others on the farm know too. If it's more than five minutes' drive away, consider clubbing together with neighbours to invest in one.

Plan where an air ambulance could land in an emergency
Keep a stocked, up-to-date Critical Care Kit at a central location and first-aid kits in every building, tractor cab and ATV.
Ensure everyone knows how to cut the power to machines or isolate tools, as well as how to use the handbrake / ignition.
